The great Root Beer Monopoly
I didn't know this, but A&W Root Beer, Hires Root Beer, IBC Root Beer, Stewart's Root Beer are all made by the same company: Dr. Pepper Snapple (formerly part of Cadbury Schweppes). With Barq's owned by Coke and Mug owned by Pepsi, that leaves just A-Treat, Dad's, and the microbrews to provide an independent taste of root beer.

Amazingly enough, my favorite bottled brand is Kutztown. Pennsylvania Dutch Birch Beer is also pretty darn good, and pretty cheap. But my real favorite is the homemade stuff in all its yeasty goodness.
