Oh, no, no more high speed internet.

My internet provider, PPL Broadband, is closing up shop. I got a letter in the mail and it was in the newspaper. I kinda have mixed feelings about this, though. Broadband over Power Lines (BPL) was the technology used to get data from the telephone pole outside my house to the internet. Unfortunately, power lines weren't designed to transmit data at high speeds. For this purpose, basically radio signals must be sent down the lines. The power lines can act as antennas for these radio signals, both allowing interferance to come in and transmitting interferance to other users of those radio frequencies (ham radio, emergency services, military, shortwave radio, etc.).

On the other hand, Verizon doesn't provide DSL to my area (too far from the CO), RCN only has one-way cable modems, and Service Electric isn't available in my apartment complex. That basically leaves me up a creek. I guess I'll have to live with dialup for a little while. Ugh.

That really sucks. Life with the dail up in our complex isn't really that great of a life, trust me.
